Winning Roll

Things don't always go your way, Manchester is a perfect case in point for the Home Guard. But when you choose to resist, you do it knowing the odds are against you and the fight will be long.

We are incredibly proud of everyone that picked themselves up, dusted themselves down, and arrived in London ready for revenge. And what sweet revenge it was to.

Thank you all, whatever your rank, whatever your role - the victory in London was a true team effort and you all did incredibly well.

Next is Gothenburg, and then... Well, who knows what the future holds. One thing is for certain though, we will resist. We will not lie down and let the invading shapers win, together we CAN save humanity!

Déjà Vu Over Sheffield's View

If you have only been paying half attention to the Intel map you could be forgiven for thinking Sheffield has enjoyed 24hours of Blue Skies.
If you have been paying no attention, or have a short memory span, you could be forgiven for being confused.

Either way, the truth is that the troops involved in last night's manoeuvres decided to push their luck and repeat the operation. This time they were even more successful, having added additional layers of protection.

Congratulations to all involved, how many times do you think you can do it before it's taking the Mick?

Stealing Sheffield

The 14th September may will be a very special day for a newly promoted Level 8 Soldier from Sheffield, it will long be remembered as the day they joined the 100K Club.

The operation had been a few weeks in planning initially between Kierkergard, MellKerrigan, Desperate & Sming but as it escalated then more people were brought on board. Several times it looked good to go, but Resources were spread thin defending key areas so the date was set for Sunday 14 September.

This also presented opportunity to initiate another of the newer level 8 soldiers - Cadair asked to be included in the operation when we sought out mobile agents to assist. The plan was set, the personnel was in place. It was time to initiate and move out into the field.

Pre planning took place on Saturday, and Intel - Led this time by Pankomputerek with support from (Not So) CluelessSmurf right until deployment where Pankomputerek stepped up and conducted his
orchestra of blue fields into play.

Just as the op was about to go into full flow we lost a key body.. Desperate was called away on urgent personal admin and we had to reorganise the field agents very quickly. Thankfully Sgt Desperate and family are all fine and the smurflet didn't arrive today!

With keys in place and the troops rolling out to start clearing the blocking links, things were going relatively well right until the first field was dropped in.. Blocking links were removed by Kierkergard, Sming and MellKerrigan then Dingus01 and Sming laid down the foundations allowing Cadair to bring it home to step up into the 100k+ fielding club with the first field in place for 278,910 mind units to be protected... only for this to be thwarted almost instantly by the invaders!

Enemy agent SoX was practically metres from the field anchor as it deployed and it lasted but only minutes before it was removed, we were anxious that the operation was in total jeopardy but Intel continued with the plan leaving SoX to be monitored from afar.

Whatever you want to call it, a deity or ADA, someone was looking out for us as enemy agent SoX left the area and the opertation continued unhindered from the enemy depsite more enemy agents being within seconds of key portals, but they did not intervene! we moved up a gear and got on with the remaining fields

The next fields shot up, covering more and more minds with their protection - Sming fielded for 283,260 mind units closely followed by Dingus01 with a 283,690 mind field. Then disaster struck when a soldier not on operational duty dropped a local link in his area only 5 metres long which critically blocked the operation from continuing!

Rapid comms were made to request they undo their work. This took a little time and left all involved in the operation feeling tense that it was dead in the water.. This did allow for a small amount of fine tuning, and meant Cadair was able to return to an anchor to gain a vital key for the final step of the operation

Whilst the main operation waited anxiously to proceed, a side op that was only hatched hours earlier between Kierkergard and MellKerrigan, took place. One of the blocking portals was put to good use and a side field created by MellKerrigan protected around 64,000 minds.

The blocker was removed as well as an additional enemy blocker that cropped up causing Intel to draft in Cpl ToKillaTwiinke. The final field put into play by Sming, for 300,762 minds, and the operation was complete.

Blue Biker Brilliance

Congratulations to SgtMjr Herbius on topping your local Cell, a nice reward for a good days work!
A nice bike ride through Blackfen resulted in 8 nested fields, based off a portal a stone's throw from an enemy barracks.

The largest protection field was 11,410 MU and the total was around 50K.

Unfortunately one layer got taken down before a screenshot could be obtained, but this is still a lovely image.

The Force Is Strong!

All 40 Artifacts are in the wild, and there are three Helios battles remaining. The fight, for this series at least, is nearly over!

So how is the fight looking?
In a word, Good!
So good even Yoda has changed colour!

The resistance has taken the lead, with the current score standing at 29 to 20, but it isn't time to relax! There is still a lot of work to be done and plenty to fight for!

The next stand-off will be on home ground, with a 3 measurement (at half hour intervals) anomaly in London... If you can offer any help, whether in London or elsewhere across the UK please sign up via the Events Page.

After London there are two standard anomalies on the 27th September, with Primaries at Munich and Tacoma, and of course there are all the Artifacts that still need securing!

Take a break to celebrate, raise a glass to our international allies that have helped get us to this position... But do not get complacent!
We lost in Manchester, and we will be the under dogs again in London... But we can succeed.

Our future is at stake, we must resist...
Besides, we have cake!

Devonshire Farming Feast

What do you get if you take nine Level 8 soldiers and give them two hours parking in Plymouth on a Wednesday night?

It isn't a joke, and it isn't a riddle... But it is a fantastic farming opportunity for Devon!

Congratulations to everyone involved in creating this 68 portal eight farm (you read that right... Sixty Eight!). You deserve a well earned rest.

The people of Plymouth and Mutley are grateful for your protection, your brothers in arms are grateful for the bounty your work provides.
You have done us proud!

Blue Sun Rising

The international Resistance community have captured the 7th and 8th Helios anomalies in style, practically securing victory by the third Measurement.

They have shown the fighting spirit that is in all of us!

We in the Home Guard must take these glorious wins and use them to spur us on in our on battle in London!

If there is anything you can offer, no matter what rank you hold, please submit your deployment request via the Events page so you can be assigned a battle group and your medals can be ordered.

Northern Lights

Sometimes, when the weather is right, you can see beautiful lights on the sky over the northern parts of the UK... Other times we have to make the lights ourselves!

Nobody said standing up for your beliefs would be easy. We are under constant attacks, but while there is a threat to humanity there will be a Resistance.

We don't do it for glory, we do it because it is right - but sometimes, every now and then, we get to relax after a job well done, safe in the knowledge we have saved minds!

Well done to the troops involved in protecting the minds of so many, and creating a significant barrier making north/south transit more difficult for the Shapers.

One thing is for sure, it ain't grim up north tonight!

Can DICE be like Dublin?

Are you up for an Anomaly?
There is a mini anomaly in London, a chance for revenge for Manchester, a chance to show that, just because we are the underdogs, we can still be a thorn in the side of the the Alien invaders and their "Enlightened" enablers!

We have done it before in Helios, we CAN do it again.
We will Resist, it's what we do.
Join the fight on the Events page now!

Entente Cordiale

Congratulations to all involved in this incredible Triple Op!

On Saturday July 20th 2013, after a little over a month of planning, resistance agents coincided visits to Roscoff, North West France and Tintagel and Barnstaple in South West England. Their mission: to create control fields covering all of Cornwall and half of Devon using an anchor portal in France to achieve maximum coverage and gain significant mind units for the resistance.

What started as a simple message in the secure COMM from one British agent to French agents in north France soon became a dedicated Google+ group of British and French agents with a shared interest in establishing the first links and fields between our respective regions as part of an ongoing relationship between countries.

With key exchanges made a week in advance, it was decided that agent @Trouserdeagle would be stationed at Tintagel to put in south and east bound links; agent @Rowbs would be in Barnstaple to put in a south bound link and agent @namastai would travel to Roscoff the previous night to be in place with local agent @strican to put in all north bound links to Britain. Supporting roles included agents @Nightwerks, @bluegooseberry and @strider99 clearing blocking links; agent @ben40 guarding an  anchor portal; and agent @ZenithUK providing real-time map intel.

On the day we waited until 16:00 (17:00 French time) at which time agent @namastai made the first and most crucial link from Voutailhad Babig in Roscoff to Tintagel Parish Church in Cornwall, over 200 Km away. Once in place, agents @Trouserdeagle and @namastai linked to portals in Cornwall in opposite order to each other, establishing 6 distinct and overlapping control fields extending out as far as Land's End at the most South Westerly tip of Britain.
A last minute Enlightened link blocked our next critical link between Tintagel and the Climate Change Sculpture portal at Brixham, and it was only by chance that we were able to send a message to a local agent via secure COMM who was able to intercept and destroy the link in question, allowing us to complete the East field resulting in the creation of a huge kite shape between France and Britain.
Following this delay our final control fields relied upon our agent @Rowbs in Barnstaple, who successfully linked the Barnhenge portal there to the Brixham anchor portal. This then allowed agent @Trouserdeagle to create several overlapping fields using other portals in Tintagel, finishing at the anchor portal to create three huge fields covering half the county of Devon. Mission accomplished, or so we thought!

Within hours of our fields having been established, an Enlightened agent had in the interim been travelling to Tintagel to destroy the anchor portal there. His job was facilitated by the use of a Jarvis virus, and within an hour of his attack, all of our Tintagel portals were lost and all control fields destroyed.

The following day, agent @Trouserdeagle set about examining the Intel map and remaining links in order to determine what - if anything - could be done to resurrect what we'd done the day before. Soon he had established a plan, and in the space of just a few hours we all worked together again using our original operation Hangout to create 4 new control fields covering almost as much land as our original fields had occupied. This last-minute undertaking required blocking links to be destroyed, both from ours and opposing factions, and again required secure COMMs messages to local agents whom we'd previously had no involvement with. Another successful outcome, and this time our new fields stayed intact for more than a day.

Even now we've regrouped to create a new set of fields covering the English Channel for a third time using portal keys gained during the original operation, and links that had remained in place all along.

The success of our operation and subsequent response to counter attack from the Enlightened is due in large part to the combined efforts of our team, working together to achieve objectives with what resources we had available, whether these be stray links or unknown friendly agents in the field. The entire process from inception to completion has forged long term friendships between the team members both here in the UK and in France, and our dedicated community looks set to build upon the success of operation Entente Cordiale well into the future.?

Operation 'Sheffield Springs A Leek'

---- Incoming Message---
Sender : +Gavin Drury
Subject : Sheffield Springs a Leek
Classification : Restricted

Sit Rep
To help celebrate having one of our new agents levelling up to Lv8, and to welcome him to the Sheffield Lv8 Club, we thought it would be a good idea to bring him into his first op and get him into the 100k plus fielding club.

Spotting an opportunity on Bank Holiday Monday morning, Second Lieutenant Kierkergard rounded up the troops as he headed over to Leek to farm the keys in a two hour round trip.

With Cpl Dingus01 on his way to collect the keys from the Northern neutral portals and Pvt Sming ready to courier keys to Pvt Melkerrigan for the Eastern portals, Flt Lt TheFuryD started planning the fields and working out how many keys would be needed. A few small blocking links were removed and with with Pvt Pankomputerek's help, we checked for any new blocking links appearing and further clearance duties were assigned.

Shortly after 2nd Lt Kierkergard had got the keys from Leek, A long blocking link from Chesterfield appeared meaning they had to divert to Buxton and, hopefully under the guise of smashing an 8 farm, the link in question was removed before coming back to Sheffield for everyone to meet and exchange keys. Then with Pvt Pankomputerek, Cpl Dingus01,2nd Lt Kierkergard, and Pvt MelKerrigan in place with bursters and Jarvis at the ready, 5 minutes of clearance, the neutral portals set up and the long southern link thrown before any blockers can pop up. The field was closed and a further two layers dropped and then we hit a block as Flt Lt TheFuryD directed the fourth layer. Reports coming back from the field that there were no linkable fields. Intel looked good, it was clear. Phones were rebooted. We were getting worried as the local fast response field killers were surely on their way now. Phone restarted. Level one diagnostics run. Still no links....and then it clicks. The agent realises he was at the wrong portal! A quick trip to the correct one and the fourth layer was deployed. Followed by the fifth and six. Mission accomplished.
Time to relax and for the Intel monkey to grab a beer. 6 Layers, 13 Fields, and 1,245,086 MU. Which was one less field than planned and about 50MU less we could have got due to a link going early, so sorry to those few minds we couldn't save.

Whilst the quick response team did indeed show up later, they failed to set up any kind of blocking link so Pvt Sming and 2nd Lt Kierkergard had a quick trip to put the field back up.

Four Smurfs Go To The Seaside

Chapter 1: Papa Smurf is Bored

Once upon a time, in a town not that far from here, there lived four smurfs. There was Papa Smurf, the leader of the group; Brainy Smurf, who was very clever; Bossy Smurf, who always thought she knew better than Papa Smurf; and Silly Smurf, who was very, very silly.

One hot summer evening, the four friends were sitting in Brainy Smurf’s garden, drinking their favourite smurf juice. Papa Smurf and Bossy Smurf were arguing - as usual. Brainy Smurf was swinging in her hammock, and Silly Smurf was sitting on the grass, playing a silly game.

“I’m bored”, complained Papa Smurf. “There is nothing left to do here”, agreed Brainy Smurf. “I think Papa Smurf is right”, added Bossy Smurf. “Can I have some more smurf juice?” asked Silly Smurf, but nobody was listening.

“I think that what we need is a holiday!” exclaimed Brainy Smurf. “Good idea!” shouted Papa Smurf and Bossy Smurf, simultaneously. Then they stopped, and stared at each other with confused looks on their faces. “Well” continued Brainy Smurf, “if you both agree, then it must be a good idea.”

“Can I have some more smurf juice?” asked Silly Smurf, but nobody was listening.

Chapter 2: Riding in the Smurfmobile

A few days later Papa Smurf and the other Smurfs packed up the Smurfmobile and headed out of town. Papa Smurf had heard about a big tunnel under the sea, which would take them to a whole new smurfy country, where the Smurfs were known as les Schtroumpfs. Papa, Brainy and Bossy all agreed that this was an excellent idea.

“I wanted to go to Alton Towers...” grumbled Silly Smurf, but nobody was listening.

The Smurfmobile made surprisingly good time as the four friends travelled through the beautiful countryside. Papa Smurf and Bossy Smurf were arguing, again. This time it was over what kind of music to listen to as they drove. “Music from Smurfville!” Bossy Smurf shouted. “No, you’re wrong. As usual. We need some 12 bar blues.” replied Papa Smurf.
“Listen you two, if you don’t take a break I’m going to hit you!” shouted Brainy Smurf angrily.

“Look! A dead umbrella bird!” squealed Silly Smurf, but nobody was listening.

Soon the smurfmobile arrived in a quaint little village on the coast. “We’ll stay here.” decided Papa Smurf. “Good idea.” said Brainy Smurf. “Just let me out of here!” whined Bossy Smurf. “Is it time for some smurf juice?” asked Silly Smurf, hopefully. But nobody was listening.

Chapter 3: A Curious Message in a Bottle

The little village had an enormous beach, so the friends decided to go for a walk while Brainy Smurf tried to teach Silly Smurf all about estuaries and tides. Soon, the sun began to set, and they decided to go and find something to eat (or in Silly Smurf’s case, to drink).

But as they walked along the sand, something strange happened. Silly Smurf was slightly behind the others, playing in the rockpools, when he spotted a glowing blue bottle bobbing along in the water. “Look at that!” he shouted, but nobody was listening. So he tried again. “Papa! Bossy! Brainy! What is that?”

“Just leave it alone Silly,” said Brainy, “it’s only litter.” “Yeah,” added Papa, “now hurry up, I’m starving”.

But Silly Smurf wasn’t so sure. He picked up the glowing bottle and peered at it closely. “Papa! Look Papa!” There’s lots of keys in here. And they all have your name on them!”

For once, all the other Smurfs stopped and listened to Silly Smurf. “My name?” Papa Smurf exclaimed. “How odd!”

Chapter 4: Why Keys Are So Important to Smurfs

Now it’s important to explain just how special keys are to Smurfs. They use them to send messages to other smurfs across long distances, and sometimes they use them to send messages to lots of smurfs at the same time, by making a big blue blanket.

Smurfs give each other keys as presents. Sometimes they find them in the street. But never before had any smurf found a key with their own name on it. Even Brainy Smurf didn’t know what that meant.

“Maybe something is broken in the G.A.M.E (Gargamel Avoidance Messaging Engine)?” Brainy Smurf suggested, looking puzzled. “Let’s see if we can fix it.”

Chapter 5: The Smurfs Decide to Experiment

First they tried to send a message with one of the keys, and it seemed to work. They could see the message flying out over the sea. Just to be sure, Papa Smurf made a small blue blanket, and this seemed to work too.

But Bossy Smurf was still confused. “Wherever these messages are going, it still seems to have your name instead of an address. How is that possible?”

The next day the small blue blanket was gone, leaving the smurfs even more confused.

“Right” announced Papa Smurf, “I have a plan. Let’s visit all of the interesting places in the village and send messages using these keys. Maybe one of our friends back home will see them and help us understand what’s going on.”

Chapter 6: Fun in the Sun

So that’s exactly what they did. The Smurfs visited the beach, the market, the churches, some war memorials, and lots of other interesting places. Then, just to be sure, they took a steam train to the next village over and made some blue blankets from there too.

They still didn’t really know where their messages were going, but they decided that it didn’t matter. The important thing was that they were having a lot of fun in a new place, and it was all because of Silly Smurf.

“Maybe I’m not Silly Smurf, I’m sensible Smurf?” giggled Silly Smurf. And, although everyone listened this time, they decided it might still be a bit early to tell for sure.
